Your system's filter(s) should be replaced or cleaned a minimum of every 6 months. If you notice a sizable amount of debris on the filter, consider replacing/cleaning the filter(s) every 4 months. Thinner filters (1" thick) should be replaced/cleaned more frequently. Properly maintaining your filter(s) is a critical step in extending the life of the system and can prevent future mechanical malfunctions. Outside of seeing a major change in your energy bill or noticing immediately that your system isn't working, your system should be checked for proper operation a least once a year.
