How often should my filters be replaced?

Your system's filter(s) should be replaced or cleaned a minimum of every 6 months. If you notice a sizable amount of debris on the filter, consider replacing/cleaning the filter(s) every 4 months. Thinner filters (1" thick) should be replaced/cleaned more frequently. Properly maintaining your filter(s) is a critical step in extending the life of the system and can prevent future mechanical malfunctions. Outside of seeing a major change in your energy bill or noticing immediately that your system isn't working, your system should be checked for proper operation a least once a year. Contact us about our maintenance services so we can help keep your system running efficiently and last longer!

Can air conditioning maintenance reduce my energy bills?

Yes, not maintaining your AC system can have a significant impact on your energy bill. Just like not maintaining your car can cause poor gas mileage, not having your AC system periodically checked for proper operation can increase your energy bill from inefficiency. It is important to note there's no exact way to estimate the energy savings from maintenance, but you do lower the risk of a major repair or system failure, which of course is almost always expensive. Call us to have your AC system inspected, cleaned, and maintained!

What is A2L?

A2L refers to the newest type of refrigerant that is being used in newly installed conventional air conditioning and heat pump systems. A2L is replacing older refrigerants, such as R-22 & R-410A. If your existing system still has R-22 or R410A, the refrigerant can still be purchased; however, since they are being phased out, these older refrigerants are becoming more expensive. If your AC system isn’t generating enough cold air, give us a call to check out your system.

As a homeowner, what should I know about?

Certain brands are more expensive than others; however, almost all HVAC systems contain identical internal components. The real differences for most equipment is simply the external appearance and name brand.

Ensuring the HVAC system is correct sized for your home is the most important factor. If the system's capacity is too small or too big for you home, you will incur many issues, which will likely cost you in repairs, or in the worst case, require replacing your new system.

The condition of your existing duct work is another key factor in ensuring your HVAC system will operate properly and efficiently. If your duct work is old, damaged, too big, or too small, this will also likely cause the system to malfunction, resulting in necessary repairs or, again, possibly your new system needing to be replaced.

Ensuring your outdoor unit is free and clear from any obstruction, debris, or even pet urine will help prevent future issues from happening to your system.

Finally, properly maintaining your filters is the most important and easiest maintenance a homeowner can do to keep their system working efficiently and properly. If you want or need assistance with any system or maintenance issue, please don't hesitate to contact us!

What is a "heat pump" system?

A heat pump is a system that works on the same principle as a refrigerator, in that it uses refrigerant and a compressor to extract heat from outside cool air and moves it indoors in the winter. It then reverses the flow in the summer by removing heat from indoors and transfers it outside, essentially acting as both a heater and a cooler thanks to the ability to switch directions to either heat or cool a space depending on the need. Because it exchanges heat and cool air and doesn't use energy to generate heat or cold air, it is a highly energy efficient alternative.

How long does an A/C installation take?

It depends on a number factors - primarily the type of system, size of the home, location of the equipment being installed, and the number of systems your home requires. For example, if you are replacing your existing heating and air conditioning equipment only, it usually takes 2-3 days to complete. However, if a completely new system or multiple systems are being installed, the job can take 5 to 6 days to complete. These are just estimated time frames and once we know your specific circumstances, we can provide you with a clearer time frame estimate. Reach out to us to see how we can help get your system promptly installed!

How long should my HVAC system last?

Unlike older systems that were built to last, newer installed systems will typically last between 10-15 years with proper maintenance. If you have an older system with proper maintenance throughout its life, these systems can last beyond 20 years. Reach out to us if your system isn’t working properly!
